Paxton shuts down Houston-area ‘birth tourism’ center
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is claiming legal victory after he sued De’Ai Postpartum Care Center in April, alleging the operation primarily marketed to Chinese nationals and helped clients navigate immigration requirements.
The center operated at four Houston-area properties and claimed responsibility for more than 1,000 American-born babies, according to Paxton’s office.
“I will do everything in my power to stop foreign nationals from unlawfully exploiting our immigration system,” Paxton said.
The lawsuit also alleged the business coached women on how to avoid immigration restrictions, including advising them to obtain visas before becoming pregnant.
Under the legal resolution, the center will cease operations and stop facilitating births for foreign nationals.
