Texas adds 5,600 jobs in August as unemployment holds at 4.4%
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Texas added 5,600 nonfarm jobs in August, bringing total employment to 14.47 million, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.
The state added 159,400 jobs over the past year, a 1.1% annual growth rate that outpaced the national rate by 0.7 percentage points.
Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 4.4%, while the civilian labor force grew by 17,100 people in August to 15.93 million.
Leisure and hospitality posted the largest private-sector gain, adding 4,900 jobs. Professional and business services added 4,500, while manufacturing gained 2,200.
Among major Texas metro areas, Midland had the lowest unemployment rate at 3.3%, followed by San Angelo at 3.6% and Abilene and Amarillo at 3.7%.
Employment figures are produced by the Texas Workforce Commission in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and are subject to revision.
